Illuminate the Night with Fence Lighting

By Christian Draeger, General Manager & Co-Owner / Commercial Fence · Residential Fence

You may not realize what a difference fence lighting can make to your property. Modern fencing can be installed with custom lighting options and with modern technology, you don’t have to rely on wired lighting to do so. The addition of lighting to your fence makes your outdoor spaces more inviting and visually appealing. It minimizes the potential for a fall at night, is an effective deterrent to trespassers, and works to keep homes safe.

Post Lighting

The most popular option is post lighting, but the many designs available means you can be as creative as you want. You don’t have to settle for a plain light atop the posts. You can opt for recessed illumination. You can tailor them to the look of the fence and demonstrate your sense of style.

Lights can be any color you desire. Illumination can be established with decorative fixtures that emulate colonial lanterns to those fashioned in the form of a lighthouse. There are styles that can be affixed to the top of the fence that provide the appearance of lights suspended in mid-air. You can also select light “bars” or panels that extend from top to bottom of fence posts.

Up or Down Lighting

Traditional fence lighting sets atop posts and light radiates outward. You can choose fixtures that illuminate upward. It’s useful for providing a sense of depth. Conversely, you might prefer down lighting in which the fixture projects light toward the ground. They provide understated elegance and can aid in preventing accidents. You can get the best of both with fixtures that shine upward and downward.

Solar Powered

You don’t have to endure elevated electric bills to enjoy the luxury of light. There are dozens of solar-powered options that harness the rays of the sun for operation. They automatically go on and off at sunrise and sunset. Solar powered fence lights are clean, eco-friendly, and the power source is free.
