Pressure Washing Your Wooden Fence
If you opt to clean your wooden fence with a pressure washer, it's recommended that it be done under cloudier, non-windy conditions when it's not underneath the sunlight. Doing this will prevent the cleaner from drying on your surface and from blowing back into your face.Steps
- First, remove any tough grime and gunk on your fence with a wire brush. If you attempt to remove them with your pressure cleaner, you'll spend too much time and cause warping damage to your fence.
- Take a garden hose and remove any of the surface dirt before you begin cleaning the fence. This allows you to use your pressure washer minimally so that it prevents damage to your boards.
- With a 25-degree tip, rinse some of your wooden boards on a low setting, keeping the nozzle at least three feet away from the surface. You want to go at a medium pace starting from top-to-bottom and side-to-side. Standing at a decent distance will allow the pressure washer to fan out over the fence. If it's too close, it will add too much pressure to one spot, causing damage to your fence.
Clean Your Wooden Fence By Hand
An ideal option to choose if you don't own a pressure washer, don't want to hire a pressure washing service, or if you fear that pressure washing will damage your fence. Below are steps you should do when cleaning your fence.Steps
- Similar to pressure washing, the first step should be the removal of dirt and grime with a wire brush. Do this thoroughly as the remaining steps require the use of oxygenated bleach and it won't be able to take off all surface dirt.
- With a large paintbrush, take oxygenated bleach and brush it onto the fence. Let it set for 15 minutes.
- After setting, take your wire brush and brush off any dirt on your fence, again.
- Finally, take a hose and wash off any remaining bleach that's on the fence.
