There are easy and cost-effective ways to give trick-or-treaters a scare and dress up your fence for Halloween. All it requires is some imagination and well-placed items.
Balloons
This works best if there’s a small breeze, but they can still cause a quickened heartbeat even without wind. The sound of 2 or more balloons rubbing together during daylight doesn’t bother anyone. In the night, it’s a difficult sound to identify which makes it spooky for those already primed for a scare. Conversely, you can also purchase glow-in-the-dark balloons, make a spooky face on them and tie them to your fence facing outward
Blinking Eyeballs
Originally designed to be hung on doors as a doorknocker, they’re equally effective for a fright when attached to a fence. Hang several, as the eyeballs blink independently of one another.
Ghosts
There are sets of ghosts that come complete with stakes, enabling them to be placed anywhere desired. Set them along your fence looking out toward trick-or-treaters.
Motion Sensor Raven
When activated, the eyes light up, it makes short sounds, and the head swivels. Mount it on a fence post to greet unsuspecting guests when they enter the yard.
Pumpkins
For a milder scare, try setting up some lighted pumpkin fence peekers. They have scary faces and can be arranged on top of a fence or set to peep through it.
Skeletons
The number of skeletons for Halloween decorating are almost limitless. You can choose from crows, frogs and flamingos to humans, baby dragons and wolves that howl. Drape them to lounge over your fence or pose them with skeletal arms reaching through. You can also make an impression with glow-in-the-dark skulls and rib cages.
Spiders
Few people can spy a spider web without a shiver. Decorate your fence with glow-in-the-dark spider webs, add a few large furry spiders and everyone gets a Halloween shudder.
Spooky Hands
You can select from glowing handprints to skeletal arms, all of which glow in the dark. Arrange glowing handprints moving sideways over your fence. You can pose skeletal hands and arms reaching through the fence.
